The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved the upgrade of the Shehu Shagari College of Education Sokoto, to a University of Education. NUC’s executive secretary,\u00a0Professor Abubakar Adamu Rasheed, presented the Letter of Recognition\u00a0to the State Governor, Rt Hon. Aminu Tambuwal at a brief ceremony on Monday 21 2022 in Abuja.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The establishment of Shehu Shagari University makes Sokoto the first northern state to own a University of Education and the\u00a04th in Nigeria, thereby bringing\u00a0the number of State Universities to 58\u00a0and the 206th University\u00a0in Nigeria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The University was approved after the state governor Aminu Tambuwal, presented the necessary documents\u00a0including the Law Establishing the University of Education as passed by the State House of Assembly and Academic Brief among others says NUC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Gov. Aminu Tambuwal, In his response\u00a0said the establishment of the University was mainly to close the gap in the provision of quality teachers and manpower needs in the state and the country at large.
