In 1975, the defunct north eastern State Government established what was then known as Medical Auxiliary training School (MATS) at Mubi, now in Adamawa State. At that time such schools trained Rural Health Assistants and Hospital Assistant\u2019s. In 1980, the nomenclature of the schools changed to school of Health Technology and trained Community Health Assistants (CHAs), Community Health Aides (C.H.Aides), Pharmacy Assistants and Technicians, Laboratory Technicians and Assistants, Public Health Superintendents (PHS) whose name was later changed to Environmental Health Officers (EHO), etc. Following state creation in February, 1976, the school in Mubi fell under defunct Gongola State.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With the creation of Taraba State on 27th August, 1991, there was need to have a School of Health Technology in the new State since it was mandatory for every State in the Federation to own such an institution. After some due considerations, Takum was selected by the State Government for the establishment of the institution. The School was then formally established in November 1993, but full academic activities started in January 1994. The first batch of Junior Community Health Extension Workers (JCHEWs) graduated in November 1995. The name changed to College following the signing into law of the enabling law (Taraba State NO.8 of 2006) by the then Governor, Rev Jolly T. Nyame, on the 30th day of October, 2006.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
