Armed men reportedly invaded hostel D at the Rivers State University in the early hours of Thursday, 24 2023. The said hostel which is exclusively for female students was invaded by the armed men at 2:30am.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According some Eyewitnesses some armed men with guns and machetes, broke a wall at the hostel to gain entrance where they assaulted and molested some of the female students. One of the students while showing her injury said the armed men inflicted a machete cut on her leg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As of press time, the school authorities were yet to release a statement on the matter but official security vehicles were at the affected hostel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the meantime, students of the institutions have been protesting the lack of security presence in the school at the time of the incident. They held up placards with different inscriptions while the school gate was locked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Rivers State Police Command, in a brief statement through its spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, said adequate security has been provided on the campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
