Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, has told news men that, the Federal government has decided to apply the \u201cNo-work, No Pay\u201d policy in compliance with Section 43 of the Labour Law. The sanction is for any employee on strike or absent from duty post without due authorisation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This came as a result of the two-week warning strike by the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With the warning strike by SSANU and NASU, activities in the nation\u2019s public universities have been on halt. The Academic Staff Union of Universities and National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) are already on strike over Federal Government\u2019s failure to keep to their agreements with them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Ngige, the actions of the unions amounted to \u201cfalse leave\u201d and a declaration of forced holidays for students. He also reminded the members that the government was not \u201cFather Xmas.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In his words: \u201cAnybody on strike now will not be paid in consonance with Section 43.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWhat they (unions) are doing is false leave; they are forcing their employers to close down some of their universities and declare holiday for students because of that.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n “So any one found guilty will not be paid.
