The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has offered 12 students of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) Akoka, who are indigent but brilliant, scholarships to support their studies at the university.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The beneficiaries are all undergraduates, including those living with disabilities, and spread across levels, pursuing different courses of study.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Chairman of ASUU of the branch, Prof. Kayode Adebayo, made this known on Tuesday in a statement made available to the Nigerian Tribune.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to him, the scholarship award is a directive from the national body of ASUU as a way of lessening the financial burden of some indigent but brilliant students across the nation\u2019s public universities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He explained that every November 12 has been set aside by ASUU nationals to recognise and celebrate ASUU members who have either made sterling contributions or have paid the supreme price in the service of the union and that the union always uses the occasion to equally give out scholarship awards to two indigent students annually in various public universities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said this year\u2019s edition of ASUU\u2019s Heroes Day was held at Kaduna State University, where two deserving students of the institution were given the award as symbolic for the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
