TechWomen supports the United States\u2019 global commitment toward advancing the rights and participation of women and girls around the world by enabling them to reach their full potential in the tech industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Launched in 2011, TechWomen is an initiative of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/eca.state.gov\/about-bureau\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">U.S. Department of State\u2019s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA)<\/a>\u00a0and is managed by the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.iie.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Institute of International Education<\/a>\u00a0(IIE).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The program will cover roundtrip international airfare, domestic airfare, housing, meals, and incidentals, hotel stay in Washington, D.C., public transportation, and local transportation to group program events in the San Francisco Bay Area, Chicago, Illinois, and Washington, D.C<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Selection Process<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>TechWomen participants are selected based on the&nbsp;eligibility&nbsp;requirements below. Applications are reviewed by independent selection committees composed of industry leaders and regional experts. Semifinalists may be interviewed by United States Embassy personnel in their country of permanent residence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Eligibility Criteria:<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Applicants must:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Be women with, at minimum, two years full-time professional experience in the STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) fields.&nbsp;Please note that internships and other unpaid work experience does not count toward the two-year professional experience requirement.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have, at minimum, a&nbsp;bachelor\u2019s degree\/four-year university degree or equivalent.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Be proficient in written and spoken English.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Be citizens and permanent residents of Algeria, Cameroon, Egypt, Jordan, Kazakhstan,&nbsp;Kenya, Kyrgyzstan,&nbsp;Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Palestinian Territories, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tajikistan,&nbsp;Tunisia, Turkmenistan,&nbsp;Uzbekistan or Zimbabwe at the time of application and while participating in the program.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Be eligible to obtain a U.S. J-1 exchange visitor visa.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Not have applied for an immigrant visa to the United States (other than the Diversity Immigrant Visa, also known as the \u201cvisa lottery\u201d) in the past five years.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Not hold U.S. citizenship or be a U.S. legal permanent resident.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Preference will be given to&nbsp;applicants who:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Demonstrate themselves as emerging leaders in their chosen professional track through their work experience, volunteer experience, community activities and education.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Are committed to return to their home countries to share what they have learned and mentor women and girls.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have limited or no prior experience in the United States.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have a proven record of voluntary or public service in their communities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have a demonstrated track record of entrepreneurialism and commitment to innovation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Demonstrate a willingness to participate in exchange programs, welcome opportunities for mentoring and new partnership development, and exhibit confidence and maturity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>TechWomen&nbsp;encourages people with diverse backgrounds and skills to apply, including individuals with disabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Selection Timeline<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 2024 TechWomen application is now open and will close on&nbsp;January 10, 2024 at 09:00AM PST (GMT-08:00).&nbsp; Applicants will be notified of the status of their application (non-select or semi-finalist) no later than April 30, 2024. Final decisions will be made no later than May 31, 2024.
