The OWSD Early Career fellows are supported to establish environments at their institutions where they can maintain an international standard of research and attract scholars from all over the world to collaborate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The fellowship programme supports early career women scientists to lead important research projects in those countries which have been identified as especially lacking in scientific and technological resources.* The fellows will undertake their research projects in one of the eligible countries and applicants must demonstrate that they have spent significant periods of time in that country (at least 5 years in total). Applicants must also have a guarantee of employment at the institution where they intend to carry out the research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>ELIGIBILITY<\/strong> <strong>CRITERIA:<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>To be eligible to apply for the OWSD Early Career Fellowship applicants must meet the following criteria:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1.<strong>&nbsp;Eligible countries<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Applicants must have been resident in one of the listed&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/owsd.net\/eligible-countries-early-career-fellowships\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Science and Technology Lagging Countries<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;(STLCs) for at least 5 years. The 5 years do not have to be consecutive.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Applicants can be citizens of any country, provided that the above residence requirement is fulfilled.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>2.&nbsp;<strong>Eligible employment<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>At the time of application, applicants&nbsp;<em><u>must provide proof of being employed<\/u><\/em>&nbsp;at the university or research institute where the research project will be carried out. If employment has not yet commenced, a proof of employment offer and confirmation of acceptance is required.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The institution where the research project will be carried out must be in one of the listed STLCs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Applicants must provide evidence that they will receive a salary from their university\/research institute for the duration of the two-year fellowship.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>3.<strong>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/owsd.net\/sites\/default\/files\/EC_Eligible%20Fields%20for%20OWSD%20Funding.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Eligible STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Agricultural Sciences<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Astronomy, Space and Earth Sciences<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Biological Systems and Organisms<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Chemical Sciences<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Computing and Information Technology<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Engineering Sciences<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mathematical Sciences<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Medical and Health Sciences<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Neurosciences<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Physics<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Structural, Cell and Molecular Biology<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><a><\/a>Research project proposals from other fields (social science, education, etc.) are not eligible and will not be taken into consideration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a><\/a>4.&nbsp;<strong>Eligible academic qualification<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>PhD in one of the above listed study fields.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>PhD awarded not more than 10 years prior to application.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>FELLOWSHIP SUPPORT<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The OWSD Early Career Fellowship is for two years and provides up to USD 50,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please note that the OWSD Early Career Fellowship&nbsp;<strong>does not provide for the fellow\u2019s salary<\/strong>&nbsp;which must be guaranteed by the fellow\u2019s institution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The fellow\u2019s institution must&nbsp;<strong>waive any overhead or indirect costs<\/strong>&nbsp;on the research project. However, applicants can include in their budget break-down any direct costs for support from the institution that will directly benefit the research project (for example, lab technician\u2019s time, maintenance and utilities costs, administrative officer\u2019s time, etc.).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The fellowship entails an initials:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>An inital advance payment of 33% percent of the total grant value<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reimbursements of expenses made with funds advanced by the Administering Institute<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Support for direct procurement done by the OWSD Secretariat on fellows\u2019 behalf (only for purchases above USD 4,500)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Application Procedure:<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Applicants must submit:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1.&nbsp;<strong>Passport<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A scanned copy of the passport page containing personal details (photo, document number etc).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Passport-size portrait photo<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>2.&nbsp;<strong>Proof of residence<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Official documentation that proves residency for at least 5 years in one of the eligible STLCs. As long as the address and the name of the applicant appear clearly, the following documents can be submitted as proof of residence: certificate of residency, statement from the local police office or municipality, population registry office, rental agreement, utilities bills, employment contract. This list is not exhaustive and alternative documents can be considered.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you are submitting any supporting documents in your local language, you&nbsp;must&nbsp;attach at least an informal translation into English. Documents without any English translation will not be considered.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>3.&nbsp;<strong>PhD certificate<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A scanned copy of the PhD certificate or proof of PhD issued by the University.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>4.&nbsp;<strong>Proof of employment<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A letter from the employer (dean, vice-dean or equivalent head of the applicant\u2019s institution) on headed paper confirming applicant\u2019s position at the institution and that the applicant will receive a salary for at least two years starting from the year of application.&nbsp;<strong>IMPORTANT: Please use the template that can be downloaded&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/owsd.net\/sites\/default\/files\/EC_2024_Proof%20of%20Employment_Template.docx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><u>here<\/u><\/a>.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If employment has not been undertaken yet, a proof of employment offer and confirmation of acceptance will be requested from the applicant, to be submitted together with the above-provided template, duly completed and signed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>5.&nbsp;<strong>Curriculum Vitae<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Complete updated CV.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>6.&nbsp;<strong>&nbsp;Publications<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Complete list of publications.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>7.&nbsp;<strong>Reference letters<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Applicants must submit two (2) reference letters; at least one must be from a senior scientist familiar with the applicant\u2019s recent research.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The letters must include the referee\u2019s contact details for follow up from Selection Committee.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><a><\/a>8.&nbsp;<strong>Supporting statement of head of applicant\u2019s institution<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The supporting statement of the head of the applicant\u2019s institution completed and signed by the dean, vice-dean or equivalent head of institution.&nbsp;<strong>The supporting statement can be downloaded<\/strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/owsd.net\/sites\/default\/files\/EC_2023_Supporting%20statement%20of%20applicant%27s%20institution.pdf\">&nbsp;<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/owsd.net\/sites\/default\/files\/EC_2024_Supporting%20statement%20of%20applicant%27s%20institution.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><u>here<\/u><\/a><\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/owsd.net\/sites\/default\/files\/EC_2023_Supporting%20statement%20of%20applicant%27s%20institution.pdf\"><strong>.<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>9.&nbsp;<strong>Budget file<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Applicants must upload a standardised budget file in Excel format inserting all items and related costs requested in order to undertake the research project.
