The aim of the award is to promote high-quality research on trade policy and international trade cooperation and to reinforce the relationship between the WTO and the academic community. Essays must be submitted by 3 June 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Prize<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The annual WTO Essay Award provides a prize of CHF 5,000 to the author(s) of the winning essay. In the case of a co-authored paper, the prize will be equally divided among the authors. The winning paper will be officially announced at the annual meeting of the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.etsg.org\/conferences\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">European Trade Study Group<\/a>&nbsp;(ETSG), the largest conference specializing in international trade. The award ceremony will take place on&nbsp;<strong>12-14 September 2024 at Athens University in Greece<\/strong>. The winning author will receive funding to attend the meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Selection<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>An Academic Selection Panel is responsible for the selection of the winning paper. The panel comprises:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Professor&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.economics.ox.ac.uk\/faculty\/beata-javorcik\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Beata Javorcik<\/a>&nbsp;(University of Oxford)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Professor&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dartmouth.edu\/~rstaiger\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Robert Staiger<\/a>&nbsp;(Dartmouth College)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Professor&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.incae.edu\/es\/directorio\/alberto-trejos.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Alberto Trejos<\/a>&nbsp;(INCAE Business School).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Professor Ralph Ossa (Director, Economic Research and Statistics Division, WTO Secretariat) is ex officio member of the panel. Dr Roberta Piermartini (Chief, Trade Cost Analysis Section, WTO) coordinates the work of the selection panel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Eligibility Criteria:<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The paper must address issues related to trade policy and international trade cooperation.&nbsp; The author(s) of the paper must possess or be engaged in the completion of a PhD degree and, if over 30 years of age, be no more than two years past a PhD defense. In the case of co-authored papers, this requirement shall apply to all authors. The Economic Research and Statistics Division of the WTO Secretariat will shortlist eligible papers by&nbsp;<strong>17 June 2024<\/strong>&nbsp;and the selection panel will take a final decision by&nbsp;<strong>8 July 2024<\/strong>. Only the author(s) of short-listed essays will be notified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Publication<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The winning essay may be published in the WTO Working Paper Series. It is the responsibility of the author(s) to endeavour to secure publication of the contribution in a journal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Submissions<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>All submissions should be sent to&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:essay.award@wto.org\">essay.award@wto.org<\/a>.
