{"id":22705,"date":"2024-07-18T12:04:01","date_gmt":"2024-07-18T12:04:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/presspay.ng\/news\/?p=22705"},"modified":"2024-07-18T12:04:04","modified_gmt":"2024-07-18T12:04:04","slug":"nelfund-students-starting-fresh-session-to-be-paid-next-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/presspay.ng\/news\/nelfund-students-starting-fresh-session-to-be-paid-next-week\/","title":{"rendered":"NELFUND: Students Starting Fresh Session to be Paid Next Week\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap\">Students of tertiary institutions who have successfully applied for the Federal Government\u2019s loan scheme and who are starting fresh academic sessions will begin to receive credit alerts from next week, said NELFUND.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NELFUND Boss recently disclosed this on Channels Television\u2019s\u00a0Politics Today\u00a0on Wednesday. <em>\u201cThe people who are going to first receive alerts as early as next week are the people who are about to start a new session in the institution they are in.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He also mention that other successful applicants won\u2019t begin to receive credit alerts until the commencement of academic sessions in their respective institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sawyerr\u2019s comment came hours after President Bola Tinubu\u00a0launched\u00a0the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) at the State House in Abuja.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said 170,000 applicants from universities, polytechnics and colleges of education now have accounts with NELFUND but 110,000 applicants have completed the process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The NELFUND boss said there are two types of beneficiaries \u2013 the first being the institutions that would get paid on behalf of those who have successfully applied to go to those institutions; and the second are the applicants \u2013 the students themselves who would receive a monthly stipend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cA formal launch of the disbursement circle played out at the State House on Wednesday,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sawyerr said the programme is aimed at giving Nigeria<em> \u201cbetter leadership in the future and improve the socio-economic situation of the country\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cTo be precise, about 110,000 students have successfully applied. They\u2019ve put in their applications and verified as being bona fide and eligible applicants. But we\u2019ll still carry out further verification to make sure they are well-qualified to receive these loans. But over 110,000 are likely to begin to receive disbursement from next week.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cIt\u2019s one thing to get approval for the loan, it\u2019s another thing to begin to receive value. This loan is for those who are going to be starting institutions afresh or those who are already there.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cCurrent exposure to students is about N35bn. We\u2019ve got much more than that sitting in our accounts that we can disburse, and we\u2019ve also got some funding on the way.
