{"id":2379,"date":"2022-06-23T12:33:01","date_gmt":"2022-06-23T12:33:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/presspay.ng\/news\/?p=2379"},"modified":"2022-06-23T12:33:07","modified_gmt":"2022-06-23T12:33:07","slug":"noun-organizes-moot-competition-for-law-students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/presspay.ng\/news\/noun-organizes-moot-competition-for-law-students\/","title":{"rendered":"NOUN Organizes Moot Competition for Law Students"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The&nbsp;graduates&nbsp;were expected to take part in this competition as it is a compulsory criteria for admission into the Nigeria Law&nbsp;School.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/presspay.ng\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/law.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2381\" srcset=\"https:\/\/presspay.ng\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/law.png 480w, https:\/\/presspay.ng\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/law-300x225.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Dean, Faculty of Law, Dr. Ernest Ugbejeh, in a chat with&nbsp;NOUN&nbsp;News&nbsp;correspondent,&nbsp;said&nbsp;staff from the&nbsp;faculty&nbsp;were sent to guide and direct the proceedings of the competition at the various geo-political zones&nbsp;of&nbsp;the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Explaining the concept of the Moot&nbsp;Court, he said it is a mini court setting where undergraduate law students are introduced to the practice of Law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cIt is a mini court-setting where all our Law students are grouped into\u00a0four\u00a0different chambers, all our students belong to a chamber.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cThe\u00a0Moot\u00a0Court is where they bring students and students are prosecuted for breach of some codes, for instance, dress code and other things.\u00a0We have judges and they are all students;\u00a0they sit and hear matters from these various chambers we are talking about,\u201d\u00a0he added.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to&nbsp;him, after judgement at the&nbsp;Moot&nbsp;Court, any law student found guilty of breaching a code, such a student will be asked to pay fine and his name will be forwarded to the&nbsp;faculty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In his words, <em>\u201cThe name of such person will be forwarded to the faculty because if he fails to comply with the judgement, he can never be recommended to the Nigeria Law School. So it\u2019s that serious and that is one aspect that underscores the importance of mooting or moot court competition<\/em>.<em>&#8220;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ugbejeh\u00a0further stated that the trainings\u00a0of Law students at the undergraduate level is\u00a0\u00a0mainly focused on substantive Law,\u00a0students only experience the procedural aspect in their undergraduate level through the\u00a0Moot\u00a0Court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking about the NOUN law graduate awards ceremony held recently, he commended the effort of graduates who recently concluded their&nbsp;Law&nbsp;School&nbsp;Remedial&nbsp;Programme for recognizing the role and appreciating those who contributed towards the realisation of their admission into&nbsp;the&nbsp;school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said the award serves the purpose of acknowledging and motivating those who contributed to the admission of NOUN Law graduates into law school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cThose who saw to the admission of the first batch, the second batch that we are pushing now, the support of those people will also be needed to ensure NOUN Law graduates are admitted into law school,\u201d <\/em>he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Source: MySchoolNews<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The&nbsp;graduates&nbsp;were expected to take part in this competition as it is a compulsory criteria for admission into the Nigeria Law&nbsp;School.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":2380,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"colormag_page_container_layout":"default_layout","colormag_page_sidebar_layout":"default_layout","footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-2379","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-uncategorized"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.4 -
