{"id":24126,"date":"2024-09-13T17:07:55","date_gmt":"2024-09-13T17:07:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/presspay.ng\/news\/?p=24126"},"modified":"2024-09-13T17:07:58","modified_gmt":"2024-09-13T17:07:58","slug":"yale-young-african-scholars-program-2025-for-african-secondary-school-students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/presspay.ng\/news\/yale-young-african-scholars-program-2025-for-african-secondary-school-students\/","title":{"rendered":"Yale Young African Scholars Program 2025 for African Secondary School Students"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Applications are now open for the<\/strong>&nbsp;2025&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.opportunitiesforafricans.com\/yale-young-african-scholars-program-2024-for-african-secondary-school-students\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Yale Young African Scholars Program.<\/a>&nbsp;<strong>Yale Young African Scholars (YYAS)&nbsp;<\/strong>is an intensive academic and enrichment program designed for African secondary school students planning to pursue tertiary education and who wish to make meaningful impact as young leaders on the continent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Across both programs, participants will enhance their academic skills, receive university admission and financial aid application guidance, and join a network of young leaders from across Africa.&nbsp;Students may attend only one session, but they can indicate their prefered session(s) on the YYAS online application.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>YYAS 2025 Program&nbsp;Dates:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>YYAS Online College Prep Workshop (6 days): 17 \u2013 22 July 2025<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>YYAS Residential Leadership Summit (Kenya; 9 days): 9 \u2013 17 August 2025<br><br><strong>SUMMER 2025 OFFERINGS:<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2025, YYAS will offer two programs\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Online College Prep Workshop<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Residential Leadership Summit (in Kenya)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Eligibility Requirements<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In order to apply to YYAS, applicants MUST fulfill all of the&nbsp;following&nbsp;requirements:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Age:\u00a0<\/strong>You\u00a0must be between the ages of 14-18 years old on 17 July 2025 in order to be considered (i.e. born between 18 July 2006 and 17 July 2011).\u00a0<em><strong>Please note that a<\/strong><\/em><em><strong>\u00a0typical YYAS student is between the ages of 16-17<\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>English:\u00a0<\/strong>You must\u00a0be able\u00a0to participate in a rigorous academic curriculum conducted in English.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Citizenship:\u00a0<\/strong>You must\u00a0be a citizen or permanent resident of an African country.\u00a0<em>YYAS will also accept applications from refugees living in an African country<\/em>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>School location:<\/strong>\u00a0You must currently attend school in an African country.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Grade Level:\u00a0<\/strong>You must be a current 10th or 11th grade student (or the international equivalents).\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Graduation date:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u00a0If you attend school in the Northern Hemisphere, you must be graduating secondary school by earliest May\/June 2026 and no later than May\/June 2027. If you attend school in the Southern Hemisphere, you must be graduating secondary school by earliest November\/December 2025 and no later than November\/December 2026.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><em>If you are currently in your final year or term of secondary school, have already graduated secondary school, or are a university student, then you are NOT eligible to apply.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Program Details:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>YYAS College Prep Workshop (online):&nbsp;<\/strong>The YYAS College Prep Workshop will offer admission to ~200 students, and is open to students across all countries in Africa. To participate, students must be able to access Zoom on their own mobile phone, tablet, and\/or computer with reliable internet for the duration of the program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Given the limited duration of the program, YYAS has strict attendance expectations where students are unable to miss even one day of the program. Students who successfully finish the program will receive a pdf YYAS Certificate of Completion that can be added to college and university applications.&nbsp;<strong>The YYAS College Prep Workshop (online) is entirely free of charge.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>YYAS Residential Leadership Summit (Kenya)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The YYAS Residential Leadership Summit will offer admission to ~100 students, and is open to students across all countries in Africa. Students will reside on a residential school campus in Kenya for nine (9) days.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The program will focus on the same college prep topics as the online workshop in addition to leadership, innovation, design, and 21<sup>st<\/sup>&nbsp;century skills. Given the limited duration of the program, YYAS has strict attendance expectations where students are unable to miss even one day of the program.
