It is awarded for the best piece of unpublished short fiction (2,000\u20135,000 words).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Eligibility Criteria:<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Be above the age of 18<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Be a citizen of a Commonwealth country<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The prize is only open to short fiction, but it can be in any fiction genre\u2013science fiction, speculative fiction, historical fiction, crime, romance, literary fiction\u2013and you may write about any subject you wish.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We accept stories written in Bengali, Chinese, Creole, English, French, Greek, Malay, Maltese, Portuguese, Samoan, Swahili, Tamil, and Turkish.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stories that have been translated into English from any language are also accepted and the translator of any winning story receives additional prize money.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Entries from previous overall winners of the Commonwealth Short Story Prize are<br>not eligible.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Entrants who have won the regional prize three times are also not eligible to submit to the prize.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Entries from current members of staff at the Commonwealth Foundation are not eligible.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Entries must be unpublished and remain unpublished in any language until 1 May 2024.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If your entry has been shortlisted or won a prize in other competitions, provided it has not been published, it is eligible.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Benefits:<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>There will be five winners, one from each region.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>One regional winner will be selected as the overall winner.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The overall winner of the Commonwealth Short Story Prize will receive \u00a35,000 and the remaining four regional winners \u00a32,500.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If the winning short story is a translation into English, the translator will receive additional prize money.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How to Apply?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/commonwealthfoundation.com\/short-story-prize\/?utm_source=social&amp;utm_medium=organic&amp;utm_id=cssp2025\">CLICK HERE TO APPLY<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Deadline:<\/strong> November 2, 2024<br><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Commonwealth Short Story Prize Writing Contest is an annual \u00a35,000 award for unpublishedshort fiction administered and funded by the<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":25063,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"colormag_page_container_layout":"default_layout","colormag_page_sidebar_layout":"default_layout","footnotes":""},"categories":[53],"tags":[81,803,802],"class_list":["post-25062","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-competition","tag-commonwealth","tag-prizewritingcontest","tag-shortstoryprize"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.3 -
