Recipients may be in residence at the Getty Research Institute or Getty Villa, where they pursue their own projects free from work-related obligations, make use of Getty collections, join their colleagues in a weekly lecture devoted to an annual research theme, and participate in the intellectual life of the Getty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Eligibility<\/strong><br>Applications are welcome from researchers of all nationalities who are working in the arts, humanities, or social sciences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Applicants who received their degree after September 1, 2019 should apply for a&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.getty.edu\/foundation\/initiatives\/residential\/getty_pre_postdoctoral_fellowships.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">postdoctoral fellowship<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Current Getty staff and members of their immediate family are not eligible for Scholar Grants. Recent recipients who have received a Getty Scholar award within the past three years may be removed from consideration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Terms<\/strong><br>Getty Scholars may be in residence from three to nine months*:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Three-month residency: September to December, January to April: $21,500<\/li><li>Six-month residency: September to April, January to June: $43,000<\/li><li>Nine-month residency: September to June: $65,000<br><br>*AAAHI and PRW Research Project Scholarships are limited to nine-month residency terms, and are granted $65,000 stipends.<br><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Please see important information about the terms of these grants&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.getty.edu\/osip\/scholars_fellows\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">here<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Residential grants also include a work station at the Getty Research Institute or the Getty Villa, an apartment in the Getty scholar housing complex, a travel stipend, and an available healthcare option. These terms apply as of June 2022 and the terms and length of grants are subject to change. Health and safety guidelines for grantees may also be imposed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Application Availability and Deadline<\/strong><br>Complete application materials are accepted online only. The next deadline for submission of application materials is 5:00 p.m. (PT)&nbsp;<strong>October 3, 2022.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Notification<\/strong><br>Applicants are notified of the Getty Research Institute&#8217;s decision approximately six months following the deadline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Review Process<\/strong><br>Getty Scholar Grants are awarded on a competitive basis. Applications are evaluated based on the following: (1) the overall quality of the application; (2) how the proposed project bears upon the annual research theme*; (3) the applicant&#8217;s past achievements; and (4) how the project would benefit from the resources at the Getty, including its library and collections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>*Applicants for the AAAHI and PRW Research Project Scholarships are not required to work on the annual theme. Rather, they should describe either (1) their focus on African American art and cultural history for the AAAHI Scholarship or (2) their focus on Williams&#8217; life and legacy for the PRW Research Project Scholarship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How to Apply<\/strong><br>Applicants are required to complete and submit the online Getty Scholar grant application form, along with the attachments described below, by the deadline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"1\"><li><strong>Project Proposal:<\/strong>&nbsp;Each application must include a description of the applicant&#8217;s proposed plan for study and research (not to exceed five pages, typed and double-spaced). The description should indicate (1) how the project bears upon the scholar year theme* and (2) how the project would be advanced by the resources at the Getty, including its library and collections.<br><br>*Applicants for the AAAHI and PRW Research Project Scholarships are not required to work on the annual theme.
