Since its inception in 2021, the World Food Forum (WFF)\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/youth.world-food-forum.org\/innovation-lab\/en\">Youth Innovation Lab<\/a>\u00a0has partnered with leading organizations in agrifood research and United Nations Agencies, including the\u00a0<strong>Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations<\/strong>\u00a0(<strong>FAO<\/strong>) to address critical challenges through a global platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Requirements:<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>All applicants must hold at least a bachelor\u2019s degree in a field related to agrifood systems, which includes but is not limited to areas such as agriculture, food science, environmental science, sustainable development or other related disciplines.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Benefits<\/strong>:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Research funding<\/strong><br>Winning teams receive up to USD 10 000 in research funding to implement their research projects. In addition, one team will be selected from the winners of each TRC category as the overall winner of the 2025 Transformative Research Challenge and will be awarded an additional USD 10 000 in research funding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Global visibility<br><\/strong>Finalist teams receive recognition for their innovative work through the WFF website and social media channels, showcasing their projects to a global audience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Networking opportunities<br><\/strong>Finalist teams connect with a global network of young leaders, agrifood experts and representatives from the public and private sectors, including the United Nations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Capacity development<\/strong><br>Semi-finalist teams receive expert guidance to strengthen their skills in research proposal development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Invitation to FAO headquarters<br><\/strong>Finalist teams are invited to present their research at the TRC Finals held at FAO headquarters in Rome in October 2025, in front of a high-level jury and a global audience via live stream on a range of platforms including UN Web TV.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Post awards support<br><\/strong>Finalists are invited to apply for the WFF Youth Food Lab incubator programme. Winning teams may also receive continued support to further develop and implement their research proposals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Phase 1: Open Call for applications<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Young researchers submit a two-page concept note, outlining an initial innovative research idea for one of the four prize categories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Phase 2: Evaluation<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Applications are reviewed by expert evaluators to select the most innovative and cutting-edge research ideas as semi-finalists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Phase 3: Capacity Building<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Semi-finalist teams participate in a month-long capacity development programme including masterclasses and mentorship provided by TRC knowledge partners. During this stage, semi-finalists refine their ideas into detailed research proposals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Phase 4: Presentation of the finalists<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>After a second round of evaluation, finalist teams are selected.
