In what should have been a season of celebration for Nigeria’s university hopefuls, confusion and disappointment have taken centre stage. The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially confirmed that this year\u2019s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) was marred by errors, sparking outrage and uncertainty among students and parents across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During a press briefing in Abuja, the JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, got emotional as he addressed the nation. \u201cWhat should have been a moment of joy has changed due to one or two errors,\u201d he said. His words reflected the heartbreak of many candidates who, despite diligent preparation, received scores that didn\u2019t align with their expectations\u2014or their performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\ud83d\udcca A Shocking Statistic<\/strong> Several students reported discrepancies between the scores they saw immediately after their exams and what appeared online later. Many described seeing much higher marks during their computer-based tests, only to be met with drastically lower results on the JAMB portal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Out of nearly 1.9 million candidates who sat for the 2025 UTME, over 1.5 million scored below 200 out of 400<\/strong>. That\u2019s an unusually high number, triggering alarm bells for parents, students, schools, and education stakeholders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
