It is located in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Yaba,_Lagos\">Yaba<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lagos\">Lagos<\/a>. It has a student enrollment of over 16,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yaba College of Technology was established in 1947 as a successor of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Yaba_Higher_College\">Yaba Higher College<\/a>. It attained autonomous status in 1969 by virtue of Decree 23 which granted it the mandate to provide full-time and part-time courses of instruction and training in technology,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Applied_science\">applied science<\/a>, commerce and management, agricultural production and distribution; and for research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yaba College of Technology is the first higher institution in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nigeria\">Nigeria<\/a>\u00a0to establish a Centre for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Entrepreneurship\">Entrepreneurship<\/a>\u00a0Development, with linkages with the world of commerce and industry. The centre offers compulsory courses which must be taken by all students throughout their stay in the college.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is a Quality Assurance Unit in the college which monitors the quality of academic service delivery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Applied Research and Technology Innovation (ARTI) Unit was established to promote research and linkages with private sector organizations for the exploitation and use of research. ARTI also assists to promote linkages between students of Yabatech and students of other institutions especially in the area of research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Free medical service is provided at the Medical Centre, which is open 24\/7. Sports facilities are provided at the sport complex which is located at the centre of the campus. The college has won the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nigeria_Polytechnic_Games_Association\">Nigeria Polytechnic Games Association<\/a>&nbsp;five times out of sixteen editions of the competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The college has a second campus at&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Epe,_Lagos\">Epe<\/a>, this campus is home to the Department of Agricultural Technology and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Michael_Otedola\">Michael Otedola<\/a>&nbsp;Information and Communication Centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The college is currently headed by Engineer Obafemi Omokungbe, the Rector. He is the first alumnus of the institution to be appointed Rector. He succeeded Dr. Margaret Kudirat Ladipo, on March 6, 2018, who completed her tenure December 10, 2017.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The name was changed to\u00a0<strong>Federal Polytechnic Yaba<\/strong>\u00a0in 1979, but changed back to the current one in 1980.\u00a0The over 70 years Institution has been headed by a number of Indigenous Principal and Rectors:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr E.A Akinleye &#8211; Principal (1970-1975)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr G.M Okufi &#8211; Rector (1975-1985)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr Philip Adegbile &#8211; Rector (1985-1993)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mrs F.A Odugbesan &#8211; Rector (1993-2001)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Olubunmi_Owoso\">Olubunmi Owoso<\/a>&nbsp;&#8211; Rector (2001-2009)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr(Mrs) M.K Ladipo &#8211; Rector (2009-2017)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Engr.
