The\u00a0Benue State Polytechnic<\/strong>\u00a0is a tertiary education institute in Ugbokolo, \u00a0Okpokwu<\/a>\u00a0LGA,\u00a0Benue State<\/a>,\u00a0Nigeria<\/a>.\u00a0The current Rector is Dr. Usman David Kuti.\u00a0It was originally known as the\u00a0Murtala College of Arts, Science and Technology<\/em>, established in 1977<\/em><\/strong> by the military governor of Benue State, Colonel\u00a0Abdullahi Shelleng<\/a>\u00a0(1976\u20131978)<\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0In 1983,<\/em><\/strong> the college’s Department of Agriculture of the College was merged with\u00a0Akperan Orshi College of Agriculture<\/a>.\u00a0The school is approved as a state-owned polytechnic by the\u00a0National Board for Technical Education<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following violence elsewhere in Benue State in March 2006<\/em><\/strong>, during a peaceful student protest at the polytechnic about a student killing and against increase in fees, the chairman of Okpokwu Local Government urged students not to take the law into their own hands. At the 29th Matriculation Ceremony of new students later that month the rector urged students to shun all social ills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In November<\/em><\/strong> 2008 <\/em><\/strong>the polytechnic’s school of Business and Management Studies organized its first annual national conference with the theme:\u00a0Imperatives of Prudent Resources Management in Nigeria for Sustainable Development<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
