Currently, the vast majority of experts are in North America, Europe and Asia. Africa is barely represented. Such lack of diversity can have three unfortunate consequences:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Research communities miss out on talented innovators who lack educational resources.<\/li><li>Unintended&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ictworks.org\/algorithmic-accountability-ict4d\/\">algorithmic biases<\/a>&nbsp;become entrenched and further discrimination.<\/li><li>Fewer opportunities are realized to use ML to improve the lives of all Africans.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Enter the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS), a Pan-African network of centers of excellence for post-graduate training, research and public engagement in mathematical sciences. They are launching a unique Masters Degree program to enable Africa\u2019s brightest students to become innovators that propel scientific, educational and economic self-sufficiency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">African Master\u2019s Degree in Machine Learning<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>AMIS launched the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/aimsammi.org\/admission-2\/\">African Master\u2019s Degree in Machine Intelligence<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 a\u00a0<em>fully funded<\/em>\u00a0one-year intensive graduate program \u2013 to provide brilliant young Africans with state-of-the-art training in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ictworks.org\/usaid-guide-machine-learning\/\">machine learning<\/a>\u00a0and its applications at campuses in Rwanda and Ghana.
