At the age of 14, he had completed his primary and secondary education and proceeded to the the\u00a0University of Lagos\u00a0where he graduated with a degree in history and strategic study. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He started recording his first set of songs in 2008. His elder brother produced all of his earlier songs and tutored him on the rudiments of singing, writing and producing. He derived the stage name Reekado Banks by combining the meanings of the two names; the former part of his stage name translates to &#8220;strong ruler&#8221;, while the latter part loosely translates to &#8220;wealth&#8221;.\u00a0He has cited\u00a0Don Jazzy,\u00a02face Idibia,\u00a0DJ Jimmy Jatt,\u00a0Olamide\u00a0and\u00a0M.I\u00a0as his key musical inspirations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He signed with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mavin_Records\">Mavin Records<\/a>\u00a0in 2014 and left the label in 2018.\u00a0He went by the stage name\u00a0<strong>Spicy<\/strong>\u00a0before his record deal with Mavin Records. Reekado Banks was declared Rookie of the Year at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Headies_2014\">The Headies 2014<\/a>,\u00a0and won the controversial\u00a0Next Rated\u00a0award at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Headies_2015\">The Headies 2015<\/a>.
