It is the only non-profit in the top 50 websites, supported by a community of millions of individual donors around the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wikipedia is looking for graduates, non-graduates, or those seeking a career change who are interested in developing software engineering skills through an immersive \u201clearn on the job\u201d internship program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As an intern, you will be embedded into an engineering team within our Product and Technology departments and assigned a primary project with clear deliverables. Alongside your manager and dedicated mentor, you will learn the inner workings of our open source code that helps to create \u201ca world in which everyone can freely share in the sum of all knowledge\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Interns will work with software that serves over half a billion page views per day through Wikipedia (and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Wikipedia:Wikimedia_sister_projects\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">other Wikimedia projects<\/a>). The outcome of your work will impact how all people everywhere discover, share, and contribute to free knowledge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Internship Requirements:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>To be considered for the Wikipedia Software Engineer Intern Program, you must:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Be able to commit to a four month, 40hr\/week internship<\/li><li>Have basic experience with at least one back end or front end programming language (e.g PHP, Javascript)<\/li><li>Have interest in cybersecurity and\/or privacy<\/li><li>Have basic experience with databases<\/li><li>Have basic experience with at least one scripting language<\/li><li>Have the ability to work independently and be resourceful in solving problems<\/li><li>Have the ability to stay accountable to deliverable requirements deadlines<\/li><li>Have effective and inclusive communication skills with diverse cultural and language communities<\/li><li>Have the willingness to learn, a positive attitude, and empathy<\/li><li>Have a sense of curiosity and and hunger to learn<\/li><li>Have the ability to flourish in a highly transparent and collaborative environment<\/li><li>Possess desire to make meaningful contributions to knowledge equity, free culture, and open access to global education<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Internship Duration and Reward<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The program will run for a period of four months, 40hr\/week internship which will fall between late February to early June 2023.<\/li><li>Interns will be embedded into an engineering team within Wikipedia Product and Technology departments<\/li><li>Interns will have the opportunity to work with software that serves over half a billion page views per day through Wikipedia<\/li><li>Selected applicants will be provided with laptops and necessary software installed for the duration of the program<\/li><li>Interns will have the opportunity to learn the inner workings of Wikipedia open source code that helps to create \u201ca world in which everyone can freely share in the sum of all knowledge\u201d<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Required Documents<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>To apply, candidates must be ready to submit the following documents;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Application Form (to be completed online)<\/li><li>Resume\/CV<\/li><li>Cover Letter<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Method of Application<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Successful candidates must be able to commit to a four month, 40hr\/week internship which will fall between late February to early June 2023.
