{"id":5763,"date":"2022-10-27T15:53:03","date_gmt":"2022-10-27T15:53:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/presspay.ng\/news\/?p=5763"},"modified":"2022-10-27T15:53:07","modified_gmt":"2022-10-27T15:53:07","slug":"fung-global-fellows-program-2023-24-princeton-university-usa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/presspay.ng\/news\/fung-global-fellows-program-2023-24-princeton-university-usa\/","title":{"rendered":"Fung Global Fellows Program 2023-24, Princeton University, USA"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>For the academic year 2023-24 and the third year in a row, the theme of Fung Global Fellows Program is \u201cSustainable Futures.\u201d The program welcomes applicants from all disciplinary and inter-disciplinary fields, including social sciences, natural sciences, health sciences, engineering, technology, law, architecture, and humanities, who analyze the sustainability of current systems and practices in light of historic, contemporary, and future challenges, with an eye on innovative and feasible changes that promise greater sustainability going into the future. The search committee will be particularly interested in applicants whose research plans align with at least one of many related ongoing research activities at Princeton, either at PIIRS or another academic unit.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR POSTDOCTORAL SCHOLARS:&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>1. Eligible postdoctoral scholars must have completed all requirements for their Ph.D. before September 1, 2023&nbsp;but cannot have more than two years of postdoctoral experience prior to the start of the appointment, September 1, 2023.&nbsp;The receipt of the Ph.D. is determined by the date on which&nbsp;<strong>all&nbsp;<\/strong>requirements for the degree at the applicant\u2019s home institution, including the defense and&nbsp;filing of the dissertation, were fulfilled.&nbsp;&nbsp;If a candidate has turned in a final draft of their&nbsp;dissertation but not yet completed their&nbsp;Ph.D. before the start date, they may be temporarily appointed as a Senior Research Assistant with a 10% reduction in salary. Upon providing verification that they have completed all requirements for the Ph.D., they would then be promoted in rank and salary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2. The postdoctoral appointment will be for one academic year for a scholar who has received a Ph.D. at an institution&nbsp;<strong>outside&nbsp;<\/strong>the United States and, who at the time of application, does not have a tenure-track faculty appointment.&nbsp;&nbsp;<em>No exceptions will be made.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3.&nbsp;Fellowships will be awarded to candidates who have already demonstrated outstanding scholarly achievement and exhibit unusual intellectual promise. Criteria for the fellowship include the strength of the candidate\u2019s research projects, the relationship of those projects to the program\u2019s theme, the candidate\u2019s previous scholarly work, the candidate\u2019s ability to contribute to the intellectual life and intellectual exchange of the program. The selection committee is looking to establish a cohort of fellows whose work represents diverse analytical approaches and disciplinary backgrounds and addresses a wide variety of regions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>4. In cases where the Fellow\u2019s base salary scale at their home institution&nbsp;is significantly below the norm, salaries may be adjusted upward to take this into account. Postdoctoral Fellow salaries are set and updated by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the level of support for the first year is determined by the number of full years of relevant postdoctoral experience when the award is issued.&nbsp; Fellows will be eligible for (health) insurance through the Princeton University benefits plan.<\/li><li>Fellows will receive research funds.<\/li><li>If completing a physical fellowship at Princeton, Fellows are given office space,&nbsp;computer access in a suite dedicated to the Program, as well as access to the Firestone Library.&nbsp; The Program assists the Fellows in finding appropriate housing through the University Housing Office and private landlords if a Fellow wishes it.<\/li><li>If completing a physical fellowship at Princeton, the Program will pay transportation costs for each Fellow, and his or her spouse or domestic partner and for their child\/children, with the following limitations: It will pay for the most economical means of transportation for one roundtrip for the Fellow, spouse, partner and children from and to his or her home institution. Travel funds for spouse, partner and children are restricted to persons accompanying a Fellow for a substantial period of time, by which we mean&nbsp;<em>at least two months<\/em>. These funds are not intended for dependents taking brief holidays in the United States.<\/li><li>If completing a physical fellowship at Princeton, the Program will pay for the shipment of books and papers that are necessary for the continuation of research, but not for the shipment of household goods. It should not normally be necessary to bring many books. The University Library possesses over five million books and others are quickly available on inter-library loan. Fellows are advised not to send research materials by sea, since they are often months late in arriving.
