The College Of Education Gindiri is a statutory organ, established and owned by the Plateau State Government. It is fundamentally a diploma awarding institution, although it also awards certificates and hopes to award degrees in the near future. Its academic programmes are regulated and supervised by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), a Federal Government owned parastatal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Following the removal of a Federal College of Technology established in 1976 by the Federal Government from Jos to Akure, Ondo State, the Plateau State Government under the leadership of Group Capital Dan Suleiman decided to establish its own College of Technology. This decision gave birth to the Plateau State College of Technology in April 1978 by Edict No. 6 of that year and its permanent site located at Heipang in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Its primary aim was to offer higher technical education to qualified applicants within the State in particular and the country in general. The first Principal of the College was Mr. S. S. Gbemiro, who was seconded from the State Ministry of Education to start the College.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The College of Technology formally took off in November, 1978 with 97 students and 19 staff spread out in four pioneer Departments, viz: Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering and Education (Tech) at a temporary site within the premises of Government Technical College (GTC) Bukuru as the learning zone while the Administration Section was situated at the West of Mines Jos. A few months later, the Administration Section was also moved to the temporary site at Government Technical College, Bukuru.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
