It is the first UNESCO Prize of this nature and is unique in showcasing successful projects that improve and promote the educational prospects of girls and women and in turn, the quality of their lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Funded by the Government of the People\u2019s Republic of China, the Prize is conferred annually to two laureates and consists of an award of US $50,000 each to help further their work in the area of girls\u2019 and women\u2019s education. The Director-General of UNESCO awarded the Prize for the first time in 2016.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Selection process<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The 2023 call for nominations is now open until 19 May.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Explanatory note and selection criteria<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>View the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/unesdoc.unesco.org\/ark:\/48223\/pf0000384642\">explanatory note<\/a>&nbsp;(with sample nomination form) which also contains the&nbsp;selection criteria.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Online nomination process<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Who can nominate?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Governments of UNESCO Member States via their Permanent Delegations to UNESCO and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in official partnership with UNESCO can make up to 3 nominations. Self-nominations are not accepted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Who can be nominated?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Individuals, institutions, or organizations advancing girls\u2019 and women\u2019s education are eligible for nomination. Nominations must focus on an established project or programme of the candidate, which has been running for at least two years, and meets the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/unesdoc.unesco.org\/ark:\/48223\/pf0000384642\">selection criteria<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How to be nominated?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Self-nominations are not accepted. If you, your institution, or organization meet the selection criteria, please contact your country\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/pax.unesco.org\/countries\/NationalCommissions.html\">National Commission to UNESCO<\/a>&nbsp;or a relevant&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.unesco.org\/sites\/default\/files\/list_ngos_official_partners_unesco.pdf\">NGO in official Partnership with UNESCO<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please check the Prize\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/unesdoc.unesco.org\/ark:\/48223\/pf0000384642\">explanatory note<\/a>&nbsp;for more information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How to nominate?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Nominations can be submitted via the dedicated online platform in English or French by a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.unesco.org\/countries\/national-commissions#:~:text=Set%20up%20by%20their%20respective,the%20work%20of%20the%20Organization.\">National Commission<\/a>&nbsp;or&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/pax.unesco.org\/countries\/PermanentDelegations.html\">Permanent Delegation to UNESCO<\/a>&nbsp;of the concerned Member State, or by an&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unesco.org\/en\/partnerships\/ngo-foundations\">NGO in official partnership with UNESCO<\/a>.<br>Nominations submitted by a Member State\u2019s National Commission must be validated by the Permanent Delegation.<br>ominations from an NGO in official partnership with UNESCO must be validated by the organization\u2019s headquarters. Nominations from country branches or affiliated offices will not be accepted.<br>&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>National Commissions and Permanent Delegations to UNESCO may access the online submissions platform through their official UNESCO account using the following link:&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/unesco.org\/gwe\">http:\/\/unesco.org\/gwe<\/a>.<br>NGOs in official partnership with UNESCO will be granted direct access to the online platform by the Secretariat upon request. To request access, please contact&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:GWEPrize@unesco.org\">GWEPrize@unesco.org<\/a>.<br>&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Member States and NGOs in official partnership may request that candidates complete the online nomination form directly.<br>Access to the platform will be granted to candidates by the Prize Secretariat upon request from the nominating entity (National Commission, Permanent Delegation or NGO in official Partnership with UNESCO). Requests should be sent to&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:GWEPrize@unesco.org\">GWEPrize@unesco.org<\/a>&nbsp;by 15 May 2023. Once the online form is completed by the candidate, the nominating entity will be required to review and validate the submission.<br>&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Nominations must be submitted via the online platform by midnight of 19 May 2023&nbsp;(UTC+1, Paris time).
