History of Madonna University, Nigeria
Madonna University was founded on 10 May 1999 in Okija, Anambra State by Very Rev. Fr. Prof. E.M.P. Edeh CSSp, OFR, she had commenced active operation with the approval of the Federal Government of Nigeria.
That year, Madonna University not only became the first private Catholic university in the West African sub-region but also the first private university to be approved by the Federal Government of Nigeria, with its take-off campus at Okija, Anambra State.
Madonna University, Nigeria currently operates under three campuses: in 2004 the main management campus was moved to Elele, Rivers State, with the Okija campus remaining one of its campuses, and in 2011 its Akpugo campus, for the engineering and technology sciences, came into full operation.
