FG Dismisses Newly Appointed UNIABUJA Vice-Chancellor
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has removed the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Abuja (now Yakubu Gowon University), Professor Aisha Sani Maikudi, and the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), Professor Polycarp Emeka Chigbu, ahead of the end of his tenure on February 14.
Professor Lar Patricia Manko has been appointed as Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University of Abuja for a six-month term but will not be eligible to apply for the substantive position. Similarly, Professor Oguejiofu T. Ujam will replace Professor Chigbu as Acting Vice-Chancellor of UNN for six months, also without eligibility for the permanent role.
Additionally, President Tinubu has replaced the Pro-Chancellors of UNIABUJA, UNN, UNIUYO, FULOKOJA, Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education, and UNIZIK.
The government emphasized that these changes take immediate effect and are part of the administration’s efforts to enhance leadership and accountability within Nigeria’s higher education system.
