Eligibility Criteria:

  • The Fellowship is open to all non-Japanese nationals.
  • Candidates with a Ph.D. are eligible to apply.
  • Candidates must not be older than 49 years of age.
  • The candidate must have an invitation letter from the Japanese host institution.
  • The candidate must have a good command of English or Japanese.
  • The candidate should not have previous experience of living or working in Japan.
  • A fellow should be employed in their home country upon completion of the fellowship and commit to returning to their home country and playing a role in the development of their country.
  • A fellow is most likely to pursue a research career in the areas of natural sciences, engineering, and medicine.
