SSANU Condemns FUOYE Council for Exonerating VC in Sexual Harassment Case

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Western Zone, has criticised the governing council of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) for exonerating the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Fasina, from allegations of sexual harassment made against him by a university staff member, Folasade Adebayo.

Mrs. Adebayo, who formerly served as the university’s Director of Works, accused Professor Fasina of persistently harassing and victimising her after she consistently rejected his advances.

She supported her claims with an audio recording, in which Mr. Fasina was allegedly heard soliciting an illicit relationship with her—a situation she said began in 2023.

In the recording, obtained by PREMIUM TIMES towards the end of last year, Mr. Fasina could be heard appealing to Mrs. Adebayo, saying: “Let me tell you, I’m dying inside for you,” blending Yoruba and English.

When Mrs. Adebayo urged him to desist, he brushed off her concerns, saying: “You’re only speaking grammar… Someone said they like you, and you’re saying something else.”

He continued, “Just make me happy, Sade (Mrs. Adebayo). Listen, I beg you in the name of God, make me happy, I will make you happy. I won’t say more than that. And things will work out fine.”

According to Mrs. Adebayo, her refusal to yield to Mr. Fasina’s advances resulted in acts of victimisation, including unwarranted queries, demotion, and persistent criticism of her professional performance.
