NUC Grants Full Accreditation to Three Key Programmes

Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai (IBBUL), has just hit a major academic milestone. The National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted full accreditation to three of the university’s academic programmes — Mass Communication, Computer Science, and Biology.

The announcement came in an official letter signed by Engr. Abraham Chundusu, Acting Director of Accreditation, following a thorough evaluation conducted by the NUC during its October–November 2024 accreditation visit.

According to Engr. Chundusu, the assessment was carried out in line with Section 10(1) of the Education (National Minimum Standards and Establishment of Institutions) Act, CAP E3, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, which authorizes the Commission to ensure all university programmes meet the national benchmark.

Here’s a breakdown of the results:

  • Mass Communication (under Communication and Media Studies) – ✅ Full Accreditation
  • Computer Science (under Computing) – ✅ Full Accreditation
  • Biology (under Sciences) – ✅ Full Accreditation

This full accreditation status is valid for five years, and it also positions IBBUL to launch postgraduate programmes in these disciplines, provided it meets NUC’s guidelines.

This achievement is a proud moment for IBBUL, reaffirming its dedication to academic quality, standard-driven education, and innovation. It marks a significant step forward in the university’s mission to offer world-class education aligned with both national and global standards.

Reacting to the news, Vice Chancellor, Professor Mohammed Hadi Sulaiman, expressed immense gratitude and excitement. He thanked the Visitor to the University, Farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago, for his unwavering support and commitment to educational development in the state.

He also applauded the resilience of both staff and students, whose dedication continues to raise the university’s profile in Nigeria’s academic landscape.

“This is only the beginning. IBB University, Lapai remains committed to doing everything necessary to maintain excellence in learning, research, and service,” — Prof. Sulaiman said.
