Education Profile of Modibbo Adama University

Modibbo Adama University (MAU), located in Yola, Adamawa State, Nigeria, has a rich history marked by significant transformations since its inception.

Established in 1981 as the Federal University of Technology, Yola (FUTY), MAU was part of a federal initiative to promote technological education across Nigeria. The university was situated in Sangere, a village in Girei Local Government Area, approximately 10 kilometers from Jimeta, the administrative center of Yola .

In 1984, FUTY was merged with the University of Maiduguri, becoming the Modibbo Adama Campus (MACUM). However, this merger was short-lived; by 1988, the university regained its autonomy and reverted to its original status.

On October 1, 2011, the institution was renamed Modibbo Adama University of Technology (MAUTECH) in honor of Modibbo Adama Ibn Hassan, a 19th-century Islamic scholar and founder of the Fombina Kingdom, now known as the Adamawa Emirate. Further legislative action in January 2021 led to the university being officially recognized as Modibbo Adama University (MAU), reflecting its expanded academic scope beyond technology-focused disciplines.

MAU offers a diverse range of programs across several faculties, including Agriculture, Environmental Science, Social and Management Sciences, Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, Engineering, Education, and Medical Sciences. The university also houses a School of General Studies and a School of Postgraduate Studies . Its academic offerings encompass undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma, and certificate programs, with a strong emphasis on science and technology.
