MUTA Education Scholarship Program 2026 – Undergraduate STEM & Medical Students
The MUTA Education Committee is pleased to invite applications for the 2026 MUTA Education Scholarship Program. The scholarship is merit-based and open to full-time undergraduate students pursuing degrees in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), Medicine, and Allied Medical Sciences.
Under this program, one eligible student will be selected from each of the 14 Tiv-speaking Local Government Areas in Benue State, as well as one qualified student each from Taraba State and Nasarawa State.
MUTA Education Scholarship Program – Benefits
The MUTA Education Committee intends to award up to sixteen (16) scholarships for the 2026/2027 academic year. The value of each scholarship will be determined and announced upon completion of the selection process. Award funds may be applied toward tuition, academic fees, research-related expenses, or other costs directly associated with the recipient’s undergraduate studies.
Requirements for the MUTA Education Scholarship Program
To be eligible for consideration, applicants must:
- Be currently enrolled as an undergraduate student in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), Medicine, or an Allied Medical discipline
- Maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of:
- 3.5 on a 5.0 scale (equivalent to a Second Class Upper), or
- 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
Important Note:
Applicants who do not meet the stated minimum CGPA requirement will not be considered, regardless of their relative ranking within their Local Government Area.
Selection Process
All eligible applications will be evaluated using the following weighted criteria:
- Academic performance (CGPA): 50%
- Quality and strength of the personal statement: 40%
- Community service and involvement: 10%
Applications containing false or misleading information will be automatically disqualified.
Completed application forms, together with all required supporting documents, must be submitted to the Committee no later than 11:59 PM on Wednesday, April 15, 2026 (US EST, GMT–5).
Notification and Award Presentation
Successful applicants will be notified via email. Individual notifications will not be sent to applicants who are not selected.
The names of scholarship recipients will be published on the official MUTA website (www.muta.org) and shared on MUTA Education’s social media platforms during the second or third week of June. Applicants are advised to regularly monitor these channels for updates on their application status.
Scholarship awards will be formally presented at a ceremony scheduled for July or August 2026, with the exact date to be communicated in due course.
Application Documents
Applicants must submit the following documents as part of their application:
- Personal Statement:
A two-page, double-spaced essay explaining why you merit the scholarship. The statement should address your academic background and achievements, involvement in community service, career aspirations, and financial need. - Certificate of Origin:
An official document issued by the applicant’s State or Local Government Area confirming origin. - CGPA Certification Form:
Applicants must download the CGPA verification form and have it completed and signed by the Academic Officer or Head of Department of their institution. Applications submitted without this form will not be considered.
