FAO–Hungarian Government Masters Scholarship 2026–2027

The Scholarship is financed by the Hungarian Government, according to the Agreement between FAO and Hungary in 2007.

The following Master of Science degree courses are offered in English for the 2026–27 academic year:

  • Master in Agricultural Biotechnology – Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Szent István Campus, Gödöll? 
  • Master in Animal Nutrition and Feed Safety Engineering – Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Kaposvár Campus, Kaposvár
  • Master in Plant Protection – University of Debrecen, Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences and Environmental Management, Debrecen 

FAO–Hungarian Government Master’s Scholarship

The FAO–Hungarian Government Master’s Scholarship fully supports selected students throughout their study period. The scholarship provides:

  • Full coverage of application and tuition fees
  • Provision of essential textbooks and study materials
  • Free dormitory accommodation
  • Monthly subsistence allowance
  • Comprehensive health insurance

All costs listed above are funded by the Hungarian Government in line with the 2007 Agreement between the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the Government of Hungary.

Please note that the scholarship supports students only. Financial support for family members is not included under this programme.

Available Master’s Courses

Applicants may apply for one of the following FAO-designated Master’s programmes:

  • Agricultural Biotechnology
  • Animal Nutrition and Feed Safety Engineering
  • Plant Protection

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must be nationals and residents of one of the following eligible countries:

Afghanistan, Albania, Algeria, Angola, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Bangladesh, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Chad, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, Gambia, Georgia, Ghana, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Kosovo, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Lebanon, North Macedonia, Madagascar, Mali, Myanmar, Republic of Moldova, Mongolia, Montenegro, Namibia, Nigeria, North Korea, Palestine, Philippines, Republic of Cabo Verde, Serbia, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uganda, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, Yemen.

Selection Process (For September 2026 Intake)

The selection process is conducted in two stages:

Phase 1: FAO Pre-Screening

FAO will review and pre-screen submitted applications and forward eligible dossiers to the Hungarian Ministry of Agriculture. The Ministry will then send the applications to the universities selected by the applicants.

  • Only complete and properly labelled application dossiers will be considered.
  • Incomplete submissions or files without applicant names will be rejected.

Phase 2: University Selection

Shortlisted candidates may be required to sit for a written or oral English language examination as part of the admission process. Participating universities will conduct an independent selection and notify successful applicants.

Final admission decisions are made solely by the universities, without FAO’s involvement. Selected candidates will also receive official notification from the Hungarian Ministry of Agriculture.

Selection Criteria

  • Candidates will be assessed based on the following:
  • Age preference for applicants under 30 years
  • Citizenship and residency in an eligible countryStrong academic performance
  • English language proficiency (for English-taught programmes)
  • Motivation and commitment
  • Good physical and mental health

Required Application Documents

Applicants must submit a complete dossier by email containing the following documents:

  • Completed application form
  • Recent curriculum vitae (CV)
  • Copy of high school or university diploma and academic transcripts
  • Proof of English language proficiency
  • Copy of passport (pages showing passport number and expiry date)
  • Letter of recommendation
  • Statement of motivation
  • Medical health certificate issued by a licensed doctor
  • Certificate of good conduct from the local police authority

All documents must be submitted in English. Documents in other languages will not be accepted unless officially translated and certified. Applicants are responsible for ensuring that each file is clearly named and correctly identified.
