African Union Continental Youth Training Program 2026

This training program is aligned with Agenda 2063, Aspiration 6, which emphasizes that Africa’s development should be people-centered and driven by the potential of its youth.

The initiative aims to strengthen meaningful youth participation in political and electoral processes while equipping participants with advanced skills in leadership, advocacy, and civic engagement. The program will place particular focus on the African Union Shared Values instruments, including the African Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance (ACDEG), serving as the key framework for promoting democratic governance across the continent.

The training is tentatively scheduled for April 2026 (dates subject to change) at the African Union Commission Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

African Union Continental Youth Training Program 2026 – Benefits

Selected participants will have their travel, visa, accommodation, and participation costs fully covered by the African Union Commission. There is no application or participation fee. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted. All applications must be submitted through the designated form.

Requirements for Participation

In line with its commitment to inclusivity, diversity, and regional balance, the African Union will select youth participants from AU Member States who have demonstrated leadership in democratic governance, elections, youth engagement, peace, and security.

Applicants will be evaluated based on:

  • Affiliation with youth-led or youth-focused organizations implementing initiatives in youth participation, democratic governance, leadership, peace and security, or electoral processes, including recognized youth activists and leaders.
  • Representation from national institutions, agencies, or civil society organizations working on democracy, governance, human rights, youth participation, or leadership-related areas.
  • Age between 18 and 35 years at the time of application.
  • A strong commitment to participate fully in the entire training pbrogram.
  • A pledge to replicate or cascade the training within their communities or organizations after completion.
  • Female candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.

Selection Process

Participants will be chosen based on:

  • The clarity and quality of their motivation for joining the program.
  • Demonstrated experience or contributions to youth participation and democratic governance.
  • The potential impact and feasibility of applying and replicating the training at community, national, or regional levels.

The African Union Commission will ensure gender balance, regional representation, age diversity, and inclusivity in the final selection of participants
