ASUU Strike: State Universities don’t Need to Embark on Strike- Former Minister

The former Minister of State for Education, Hon. Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba has in his recent speech said that State owned Universities don’t need to join the ongoing strike embarked by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

Recall that the Academic Union – Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) went on strike for over four months, stating that they will only call off the incessant industrial action only if the Federal Government resolved their demands, one which includes adopting the “University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS) as their preferred payment platform in lieu of “Integrated Payroll and Personnel information system (IPPIS)” and payment of their Earned Salary areas.

According to Hon. Chukwuemeka: “ The demands that were laid down contained issues relating to Federal Universities and their direct employer, which is the Federal Government.

He also mentioned that “ No State University Students have the right to block Federal roads over ASUU strike because State Universities are not supposed to be on strike.”
