Bagging A First Class while Living with Sickle Cell
A Nigerian sickle cell lady, named Hephzibah Adeniji, a Biological science at Covenant University narrated how she became the best graduating student with 4.96 out of 5 points CGPA.
Hephzibah Adeniji Tolulope shared a heart touching story of how she was diagnosed with sickle cell disease at an early age and losing her mother whom she described as her main motivation and support during the heat of the COVID pandemic in May 2020 drained her, then graduating with a CGPA of 4.96/5 as the best student in biological sciences was Unexpected. Beyond achieving the top position in her department, she was also the second best graduating student in the University.
In her words: “I came into Covenant University with the mindset of a child. I have grown in the wisdom of God and in everyday living. I have learnt how to handle certain situations and people maturely and I couldn’t be more proud of myself. i’m grateful for God’s grace and goodness in my life, I mean, how else could I maintain beauty when Crisis hit?”
Revealing how she did it, Hephzibah said “I maximise the times when I’m well, so that when I fall sick, I’m not entirely at a loss.”
She attributes her resolve to God, family, a strong support system represented through “God-sent helpers who are now family”, and a unique understanding that pain only last a while.
