Benue State University Renamed to Honour Its Founding Father
Benue State University, Makurdi, now bears a new name: Reverend Father Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi. While it may take some time to get used to, many are already calling it MOAUM for short.
This change isn’t just symbolic — it’s official. The Benue State House of Assembly passed the legislation, and the Governor, Reverend Father Hyacinth Iormem Alia, signed it into law on December 30, 2024 — a date that now marks a significant chapter in the university’s history.

The name change comes with immediate administrative updates. According to a memo from the Office of the Registrar, all official documents — including letters, memos, academic results, and ID cards — must now carry the new name. The directive is addressed to all principal officers, deans, directors, and heads of departments, urging them to update their records and systems without delay.
Despite the new identity, the university’s mission remains unchanged. It will continue to provide quality higher education, just as it always has — only now, under a name that honours its founding father.
So while the nameplate has changed, students can rest assured: their academic journey and the value of their degrees remain firmly intact.
