Bishop Oyedepo Orders NYSC call-up Students to be Withheld for Missing Prayers.

Parents/guardians of some recently graduated Student from the Landmark University, Omu-Aran, Kwara State have accused the University management of the institution of withholding the National Youth Service Corps Scheme call up letters of their children/ward for missing farewell prayer session.

According to one of the parents who texted a vanguard news correspondence said, about 200 students were affected as a result of this. The parent alleged that the students were absent when the Chancellor of the university, Dr. David Oyedepo, came to pray for them and bid them farewel as they graduate.

Part of the text message sent by one of the parents reads: “Sir, this problem may not be any business of yours, but, I feel as an affairs analyst, you can add your voice to 200 families of the student whose NYSC call-up has been delayed. This is because Bishop David Oyedepo came to pray over them but met their absence so he instructed the management that their NYSC call-up letters be withheld.

“Several Letters of appeal have been sent when I heard that call-up letters will be released in August 2022 but there has been no response till date.

This means our children will stay at home till August. This is rather dracorian and the height of wickedness.”

Responding to this accusation, the spokesman for Landmark University, Mr. Joseph Olajide, has said that affected students are faceless as far as he was concerned, because he is not aware of the protesters. Mr. Olajide, who said he did not want to be drawn into the issue of whether students were sanctioned or not for missing a prayer programme, highlighted that the parents/guardians are supposed to present their grievances before the school management and not run to the media.

When asked whether there was indeed a prayer session which the students missed, and if it the withheld call-up letters were as a result of this? but Mr. Olajide said he would not want to be dragged into the controversy.”

However he pointed out that, “All he can say is that the parents should have complained to the school management, so it would look for ways to solve the issue in liue of going to the media.”

Mr. Olajide also said that the students were being mobilized in batches for the NYSC programme and that those who haven’t been mobilized may have had issues with their results or with the school. And for as long as our students don’t have any pending issues, then there is no reason or whatsoever to delay their NYSC mobilization.
