Brief History of COEASU
Cognizant of our fundamental rights as entrenched in Chapter 4, Section 40 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as amended, COEASU decided to come together as a Union, as categorized in the Trade Union restructuring Gazette No. 6, Vol. 65 of 8th February, 1978.
As an independent trade Union body, the Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU) chose to form a union in 1992. It was formally registered as such in 2010 by the Office of the Registrar of Trade Unions in Nigeria, with Registration No. 0115.
OBJECTIVES
- To organize all the academic staff members of the Colleges of Education in Nigeria.
- To coordinate and regulate the relationship between academic staff and the employers on one hand and among members of the Union on the other hand.
- To ensure the enhancement of high standard of performance and professional practice.
- To ensure the enhancement of just and proper condition of service for its members.
- To encourage members of The Union to participate in lawful affairs of the colleges, their community and the nation.
- To engage in other lawful objects that are not inconsistent with the rules, practice, and aspirations of trade unionism in Nigeria and globally.
- To ensure the enhancement of the social and economic well-being of members.
