Buhari Enjoin ASUU to Call off Strike
President Muhammadu Buhari, on Monday, July 11, during a meeting with some governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC), legislators, and political leaders at his residence in Daura, Katsina State, called on the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to reconsider their decision and call off the prolonged strike.
President Buhari pointed out that the future of the country lies in the quality of educational institutions, hence he pleaded with the striking lecturers to resume academic activities with students in the classrooms while negotiations continue.
He further expressed his fears about the continuous closure of schools and the impact it would have on the future development of the country. Consequently he called on well-meaning Nigerians, particularly those close to the members of the union, to intervene by persuading the lecturers to reconsider the federal government’s position on resumption.
