Call For Applications: Teach for Nigeria Fellowship Program 2024

About

Nigeria’s exceptional university graduates, young professionals, and entrepreneurs from diverse academic backgrounds are invited to partake in this fellowship, serving as full-time teachers (Fellows) in under-resourced schools within low-income communities.

The application portal to become a fellow opens on the 1st of February 2024. If you are passionate about changing lives, join us; let’s end educational injustice in Nigeria.

There are two pathways for the fellowship: The Young Graduates Pathway and the Existing Teachers Pathway. Check the eligibility for both pathways below.

Eligibility for Young Graduates

This pathway is meant for highly motivated young graduates and mid-level professionals from diverse academic backgrounds. The eligibility criteria are as follows:

  • A Nigerian between the ages of 18 and 35 at the time of application.
  • A university graduate with a minimum of 2:2.
  • Must have at least 5 O’Level credits in Mathematics and English.
  • Completed NYSC on or before July 2024

Eligibility for Existing Teacher Pathway

This pathway is for experienced teachers already employed as public school teachers, either under SUBEB or TESCOM in Ogun State. The eligibility criteria are given below:

Structure

Teach for Nigeria is looking for people who demonstrate leadership potential during their application. As a result, you’ll be asked to write three essays describing your leadership experience, motivation, and your long-term goals.

This requires you to reflect on your past experiences and future goals. Describe your personal achievements over the years and share your career aspirations. We want to know how the fellowship will propel you to your desired career path. We advise you to use the STAR approach (situation, task, action, and result) to write the application essays.

Be sure to share your volunteering and job experiences, but never lie or exaggerate your achievements. If you do, you’ll be caught out during the selection process.

Documentation

We’re looking for people with high academic achievements, and so we’ll only consider people with a minimum of five credits in their O’level and a minimum grade of 2:2 at the university level.

When you’re ready to submit your application, you’ll be asked to provide BSc certificates (we accept statements of results from 2019- 2023), S.S.C.E (WAEC, NECO or NABTEB), NYSC, and your birth certificate. Ensure that the documents are error-free.

We advise you to take your time with your application and to carefully proofread your essays before submitting them. Check for spelling and grammar errors, avoid unprofessional language, and always ensure that your responses are relevant to the questions.
