COEASU THREATENS TO JOIN ASUU’S ONGOING STRIKE
Colleges of education lecturers under the aegis of the Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU) has threatened to join the ongoing ASUU strike over the non-payment of N15 billion revitalization funds.
The president of the College of Education Academic Staff Union(COEASU), Smart Olugbeko in a statement issued on Tuesday, Feb 15, said the Union would call a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting to take necessary actions as permitted by the Trade Union Act if the government fails to stick to their end of the Bargain in the next few weeks.
Mr. Olugbeko listed some of the union’s disservices in regards to renegotiation of the 2009 Agreement, such as problems faced from the imposition of IPPIS, and the payment of the N15 billion Revitalisation Fund for the development of Colleges of Education Across the Nation.
Furthermore, Mr Olugbeko criticized the Government’s unconcerned attitude towards meeting the Union’s demands. In his words: “Standards in Colleges of Education have drastically dropped, leaving both staff and students indifferent as there are sparse lecture halls, debilitated laboratories, obsolet libraries, and unfavourable learning environment.
