The Federal Executive Council has approved a new compliance framework to regulate unlicensed, unregulated, and underreported mining activities as part of efforts to sanitize the sector.
At its meeting on Monday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, the cabinet, led by President Bola Tinubu, also approved a contract for completing the dualization of the Oyo-Ogbomoso road in Oyo State.
Once again, President Tinubu presided over the council meeting, where several memos from ministries, departments, and agencies were reviewed and approved.
It was a particularly successful session for the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, whose proposal for the dualization of a key road project in Oyo State received the council’s endorsement. The federal government is set to invest ₦147 billion to complete the project.
With oil revenue struggling to meet the country’s growing financial demands, the government is intensifying efforts to generate revenue from the non-oil sector to drive national development.
The mining sector is undergoing critical reforms, central to the administration’s economic diversification agenda. Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, highlighted that the newly approved mining framework will enhance regulatory enforcement within the industry.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, disclosed that the federal government has insured critical aviation infrastructure nationwide. He emphasized that this initiative aims to align Nigeria’s aerospace sector with global best practices.
Additionally, the Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, briefed journalists on key developments concerning women’s welfare in the country.
The next meeting of the Federal Executive Council has been scheduled for Wednesday, as announced by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris.
