FG gives newly inaugurated Committee 3months Ultimatum to Renegotiate
The Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, while inaugurating the team on Monday 7, 2022 in Abuja, Mallam Adamu urged the committee to conduct this all-important assignment with urgency within the duration of three months, considering the ongoing strike by ASUU.
The re-negotiation of the 2009 agreements between the Federal government and the University-based staff unions (ASUU, SSANU, NAAT & NASU) Initially commenced on Monday, 13th February 2017.
But due to series of circumstances beyond control, though not limited to the COVID-19 pandemic, the re- negotiation has been haul on till date.
Mallam Adamu also pointed out that the newly inauguarated committee, is expected to review the draft proposed “FGN/ASUU Renegotiated Agreement” liaise and consult with relevant stakeholders to settle the position of the Federal government on the issues in the draft.
The committee is also expected to renegotiate in realistic and workable terms the 2009 agreements with other University-based unions while also negotiating and recommending any other issue the committee deems relevant to reposition the Nigerian Universities for global greatness and competitiveness.
