First Vice Chancellor in Nigeria Passes On.
Prof. Grace Alele-Williams, has passed away. She died on Friday, March 25, at the age of 89. Before her death, Prof. Grace was the first female Vice-Chancellor in Nigeria and the first female Vice-Chancellor of the University of Benin.
Dr. Ray Chikogu, UNIBEN chairman of The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Benin (UNIBEN) branch, described the passing away of Prof. Grace to be greatly saddening.
In his words: “late Prof. Grace was always at the helm of affairs of the institute at the time that it was clearly in need of a direction and strong leadership, even more we will miss her because of the remarkable landmarks she left in the university in terms of good infrastructure and human development.
“She was an icon in the University of Benin and she will be greatly missed.
“She left an indelible footprint and we are praying that God will give her immediate family the fortitude to bear the loss, and we also pray that the Almighty God will grant her eternal rest” Dr. Ray said.
