Graduates Who Evade NYSC mobilization Stand the Risk of Being Prosecuted – DG.

The NYSC Director-General, Major General Shuaibu Ibrahim, has disclosed that The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) is working with the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to ensure that graduates who refuse to take part in the NYSC mobilization scheme after the completion of school stand the risk of being prosecuted.

Gen. Ibrahim made this known during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the NSCDC and the Scheme for the prosecution of its criminal cases on Friday in Abuja.

In his statement: “The management of NYSC will henceforth prosecute Nigerian graduates who refuse to present themselves for mobilization after completion of their studies.

Section 13 Sub Section 1(a) and (b) of the NYSC Bye-Laws empowers the Service Corps to prosecute such defaulters.

Recall that in 2018, the Scheme had said it would sanction employers suspected to aid and abet corps members who are posted to serve in their organizations to carry out their pre primary assignments but evade service and are of gross misconduct.

Ibrahim, also pointed out that, the scheme has encountered series of problems in attempts to prosecute its offenders in the past, though they are optimistic that the partnership with the NSCDC will help to tackle those unrelenting challenges.

During the event, the DG commended the NSCDC for spearheading the discovery and dismantling of a fake NYSC Camp 11 years ago as well as the successful prosecution of its offenders.

The NSCDC Commandant General Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi assured the NYSC of the readiness of his organization to assist the Scheme in the pursuit of its mandate and swore to ensure that the partnership yielded the desired results.
