History of Enugu State Polytechnic

The Enugu State College of Agriculture and Agro-Entrepreneurship (now Enugu State Polytechnic) was established by the Enugu State Government Edict No. 6 of May 2009 (the Enugu State College of Agriculture Law, 2009).

The Polytechnic is a tertiary institution, a body corporate, for the provision of courses of instruction, training and research in many Colleges like Agricultural Technology, Business Management Technology, Applied Science Technology, Engineering Technology and such other fields of learning as it may from time to time determine, and may award diplomas and certificates in respect of these fields of learning to students who qualify for such awards.

The Polytechnic, by virtue of the development vision of Nigeria and the reality of its time, is thus, positioned to provide courses of instruction, both in academic and professional fields for students of the Polytechnic and others in the field of agriculture, business management, engineering and applied sciene under the following departments:

(a) Administration Department

(b) Agricultural Technology Department

(c) Agricultural Extension and Management Department

(d) Agricultural Engineering and Mechanization Technology Department

(e) Animal Health and Production Technology Department

(f) Physical Sciences Department

(g) Home Economics Department

(h) Veterinary Science Department

(i) Horticultural Technology Department

(j) General and Entrepreneurship Studies Department

(k) Accountancy Department

(l) Banking and Finance Department

(m) Computer Scinece Department, and

(j) Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department.

The Polytechnic has modern and effective building structures such as:

a. Administrative Complex

c. ICT Centre

d. Staff Offices

e. Student Hostels

f. Laboratories (Soil, Physics, Chemistry, Biology etc)

g. Farm house/Caravan

h. Fish Ponds

i. Poultry etc

II. MACHINERIES

As an institution with the vision of impacting vocational skills in engineering, business management, agriculture and agro-entrepreneurship where community development supports economic expansion and employment, a great number of machines and machineries have been procure. They include but are not limited to;

b. Bulldozers

c. Industrial water pumps

d. Power houses.

ACCREDITATION

The accreditation team from National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) accredited some of the Courses offered in the Institution and are still in negotiations with the Institution to accredit more Courses.Policies

After the College of Agriculture at Igbariam was inherited by Anambra State after its creation and that of Ikwo was inherited by Ebonyi State after its creation, Enugu State was left without an institution that can produce middle and high level manpower in the Agricultural sector of the economy.

Consequently, the establishment of the College of Agriculture and Agro-Entrepreneurship (now Enugu State Polytechnic) at Iwollo was intended to release to the society, high trained manpower in the Agricultural sector to face the challenges of food insecurity, not only in Enugu State but in Nigeria in general.
