History of School of Nursing Abeokuta

The School was established to train professional Nurses after passing the Professional Examination conducted by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria. The School was initially an extension of School of Nursing, Eleyele, Ibadan of the then Western Region, later called Western State before the creation of Ogun State in 1976.  Student-Nurse Trainee who passed the Preliminary Training School (PTS) Course of six Months at Eleyele Ibadan were posted to Abeokuta, State Hospital School of Nursing, Ijaye for the remaining 3 years of Nursing Training.

In January 1976, the School was reopened on Provisional Approval Basis.  On February 13th 1976 the first set of 30 students’ commenced training for a 3 years course as pioneer students of Ogun State.  The School was moved from its old site at State Hospital Ijaye to its permanent site at Idi-Aba. The Building houses School of Nursing and School of Midwifery and provides for the offices of teaching and non-teaching staff.
