How To Apply for PTDF Scholarship 2024

The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) Scholarship is an annual monetary and material award organized by the Federal Government of Nigeria through the Ministry of Petroleum Resources. It offers a fund of N700.000/Yr and a laptop to each awardee.

How To Apply?

The PTDF Scholarship is a prestigious scholarship with very attractive rewards, hence a high number of applicants leading to competition. This post will however help you with the steps to submit a strong application.

Step 1: Understand the Requirements

To submit an application that gets you shortlisted, you have to first understand the requirements;

PTDF Scholarship Requirements

  • Are an undergraduate student in your second year or a postgraduate student 
  • Have a minimum grade of second-class lower (2:2)
  • Are enrolled in a federal university 
  • Have at least 5 O’Level credits including English Language and Mathematics.
  • Are studying a course related to oil and gas (Science, Engineering, Technology, Management)

Step 2: Visit the PTDF Scholarship Portal

Now that you have been briefed about the requirements, let us proceed to the scholarship application portal. CLICK HERE

Once you have landed on the page, click “Create New Applicant Account”. Your screen should look like the image above;

To create a new applicant account, fill in your details in the space provided and click “Create New Applicant Account”.

An email with instructions on how to log in and set your password will be sent to the email address you have provided. Now, you can proceed to log in.

Step 3: Verify your National Identity Number (NIN)

The first thing to do on the application page once you are logged in is to verify your NIN. Click verify NIN on the top right section of the page  (blue button).

Once you have clicked on the button, a form pops up requesting you to input your details (name and NIN).

This service will cost you a sum of N500.00 only. 

If you have tried to verify your NIN and it was unsuccessful, do not try for a second time as you will be charged twice. 

Click on the red button with the text “Click here for all failed NIN verification” then enter your payment transaction reference and NIN to complete the verification.

Step 4: Fill your Personal Information

Next, you will be asked to fill out the application form. This requires your name, date of birth, 

NIN, name of your tertiary institution, your current level of study et al., save and click NEXT.

Step 5: Upload The Required Documents

Once you have completed the Personal Details section, you will directed to the document upload page. Note that your document should be less than 300KB to be accepted.

The documents required are;

  • O’Level results with at least 5 credits, including English Language and Mathematics 
  • Letter of admission into the University.
  • First-year academic transcript(s) duly signed and stamped by HOD/Exams Officer.
  • Certificate of indigeneship
  • Birth certificate 
  • Personal statement of at least 300 words (See our guide
  • First Degree Certificate or Statement of Result (Master’s).
  • NYSC Certificate or letter of exemption (Master’s).
  • Second Degree Certificate or Statement of Result (PhD).
  • PhD research proposal (PhD).

Step 5: Preview Your Application

Review your application from the personal details, to the documents uploaded, and ensure they are in adherence to the standards required by the PTDF.

Ensure you write your essay with strong adherence to the guidelines, proofread it for errors in spelling and grammar, and if possible, seek the input of past scholars to review them before submitting your application.

Step 6: Submit Your Application

After a careful review of your application from start to finish, you can now proceed to submit your application.

It is important to review your application and proofread all essays as many times as possible. Once the application is submitted, you cannot edit or modify it.
