JAMB annouces 2023/2024 admission cut-off marks
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced the cut-off marks for admissions into tertiary institutions in Nigeria for the 2023/2024 academic session. JAMB made this announcement after holding a meeting with heads of tertiary institutions in the country. The meeting, which took place in Abuja, was presided over by the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu.
JAMB has pegged the cut-off mark for universities at 140, while the cut-off marks for polytechnics and colleges of education are 100 each. However, JAMB’s registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, stated that institutions are free to set their own cut-off marks, as long as they do not go below the minimum cut-off marks of 100 for polytechnics, 100 for colleges of education, and 140 for universities.
The announcement was made during the ongoing Policy Meeting on Admissions. At the meeting, vice chancellors of universities, rectors of polytechnics, and provosts of colleges of education deliberated on the appropriate cut-off marks. JAMB’s registrar then announced the agreed minimum cut-off marks.
In addition, the meeting called for a review of the admission criteria. The heads of tertiary institutions were given 10% discretionary power in the admission process. This means that they have the power to admit 10% of candidates outside the normal criteria for admission.
