JAMB Expose About One Million Fake Admissions.
Based on available data, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has exposed close to one million illegal institutional admissions that was conducted outside the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) between 2017 and 2020.
Surprisingly details of the few students’ who fell victim to the scam, are yet to be uploaded on the Board portal by the institutions they choose during registration as required. However JAMB has advised the victims to hold their respective institutions responsible for their inability to access their admission letters.
JAMB said its advice to students came as a result of their numerous complaints about how the situation has delayed their call to the mandatory National Youth Service Corps, NYSC. According to a statement released by JAMB Head of Media, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, on Thursday, the issuance of admission letters to students could only be facilitated by schools through upload of students’ particulars.
The statement reads: “The attention of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has been drawn to complaints by some frustrated candidates on their inability to obtain their admission letters which would qualify them to proceed to the one-year mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) or obtain exemption letters as the case may be.
“That not withstanding, the Hon. Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, has out of compassion, approved a final condonement of these fake admissions.
“Recall that JAMB had placed relevant advertisements in three national dailies namely; Blueprint, Guardian and Vanguard of 24th November 2021 as a result of this act of magnanimity.
“The same notice was featured on the Board’s website coupled with an easy-to-use Advisory issued to all institutions of higher learning to guide them on how these candidates could be redeemed.
” It is even more appalling to know that even among the few that had been uploaded by the schools on the Board portal many of the schools had not correctly keyed in their details.
“JAMB, therefore, uses this medium to plead with the institutions involved to immediately upload the students details such as; matriculation numbers, names, disciplines and year of graduation appropriately so the JAMB can process candidates condonement applications.
