Japan Government MEXT Scholarship 2026 for Undergraduates | Fully Funded
The Japanese government has announced applications for the 2026 MEXT Scholarships to support foreign students who study in higher education institutions, selected on the recommendation of Japanese Embassy/Consulate General.
The MEXT Scholarship 2026 for Undergraduates is a prestigious, fully funded program that allows international students from countries with diplomatic ties to Japan to pursue Bachelor’s degrees at Japanese national universities, with full support for tuition, monthly stipends, and international travel.
Requirements:
- Be citizens of countries with diplomatic relations with Japan.
- Be born on or after April 2, 2001.
- Have completed or be scheduled to complete 12 years of formal education by March or August 2026.
- Demonstrate sufficient proficiency in Japanese or English to pursue university-level education.
- Be physically and mentally fit for study abroad.
Duration and Reward
- Tuition: Full Tuition fees
- Allowance: 117,000 yen per month. A supplemental regional allowance of 2,000 yen or 3,000 yen per month will be added to the monthly scholarship amount for the grantees studying or conducting research in specially designated regions.
- Education Fees: Fees for the entrance examination, matriculation, and tuition at universities will be paid by MEXT.
- Traveling Expenses: MEXT will stipulate the travel schedule and route, and provide an airline ticket to grantees who will arrive in Japan and also return ticket at the end of the programme.
